Fraconian Sculpture Park MINNESOTA Iron Artist Intern Opportunity

Opportunity: 2011 Iron Artist & Iron Intern Application
Deadline: April 16th 2011
FRANCONIA, MN. 15th Annual Franconia Sculpture Park Community Collaboration / Hot Metal Pour workshop residency which will begin on July 26, 2011, culminating in an iron pour on August 6th, 2011. Artists are invited to apply for this workshop. 12 artists and 3 intern artists will be accepted to the residency to experiment and make cast iron sculpture. Each artist who participates will be included in the cast metal exhibition at the park.
The focus of the Franconia Community Collaboration / Hot Metal Pour is conceptual realization and collaboration.  The residency workshop provides a venue for cast metal artists to exchange ideas and techniques. Artists will present their work in an informal visual presentation to their peers and the public, and discuss cast metal sculpture.
Franconia Sculpture Park is free and open and to the public 365 days a year and offers a unique environment for the public to interact with artists at work. This residency is a community collaboration project where the public is invited on the pour day to make relief sculptures.  Participating artists will be asked to assist in pouring 200 open face sculptures as well as teach / work with the public for 1 hour the day of the pour.
Cost for the ten day residency is $350. Fee includes studio space in the outdoor work area, all materials (except those for patterns), tools, equipment, engineering, and staff assistance.  Artists are responsible for the expense of food and travel. Residents participate in the rotating cooking and cleaning schedule for community dinners, and are responsible for their own breakfast and lunch. Pour residents camp on site and are asked to bring a tent. Bathing and cooking facilities are in the main house.
Founded in 1996, Franconia Sculpture Park is an innovative model that combines the rare integration of artists at work, residence and exhibition space all in one venue. The outdoor, rotating collection of over 80 contemporary sculptures reflects the creative talents of local, national and international artists. Each year, a number of artists are invited to create and exhibit their work as part of the Franconia Sculpture Park/Jerome Foundation Fellowship Program or Open Studio Fellowship. There has been an annual Metal Pour at Franconia Sculpture Park since 1996, including several international exchanges.
Deadline for submissions is April 16, 2011
