Public works Call to Artist Norfolk, VA

The City of Norfolk, Virginia seeks to commission an artist to create
artwork that is iconic, brave and fun.

With the new light rail opening May 1, 2011, the dream of transit-oriented developments along the light rail line has spurred a new civic space. MacArthur Square being created in downtown Norfolk is surrounded by the MacArthur Shopping Mall, the MacArthur Memorial and the future Slover Library.

Norfolk’s downtown is thriving with culture, history, festivals, attractions and entertainments and boasts the best shopping and dining experiences in the entire region. This major downtown light rail station will serve as a meeting place attracting both residents and tourists. The community plaza will be a comfortable counterpoint to the formal government center light rail stop located at City Hall and the Courthouses.

Budget: $250,000

Deadline for Submission: 1:00 PM EST, December 14, 2010
